Weiju Wu

MD, PhD, registered acupuncturist

I first learned the potency of acupuncture 20 years ago during my Clinical Medicine study, where Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was integrated as a half-year course. I was astonished by the simplicity and remarkable effectiveness of acupuncture treatments. There were no complicated tests to take, minimal side effects to worry about and no long waits. The only tools needed were extremely thin needles and of course the skills and knowledge of the practitioners.

In 2018, I re-evaluated my choices of studying medicine and performing biomedical sciences and had an epiphany. I originally chose them because of my desire to help people. However, the reality was that although my biomedical research results might help to understand some diseases, they did not offer possibilities to improve the treatments in the near future. What I really wanted to do was pro-actively to treat diseases by using my medical and biomedical knowledge. The power of acupuncture treatment I had first seen 20 years ago resurfaced at that moment.

After several months of research into TCM, I became deeply inspired by TCM’s ancient and unique theoretical system that acupuncture applies. In order to properly grasp this technique, I obtained a sabbatical in 2019 and fully dedicated myself to study it at the world renowned Beijing International Acupuncture Training Centre, led by the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. When I returned to the UK, the quick results and effectiveness of my initial acupuncture practice on some clients were greatly encouraging and a determining factor for me to keep pursuing it.

Through 8 years of medical studies and 13 years of work experience in different biomedical fields, I have become extremely knowledgeable of various diseases and their mechanisms. Alongside my practice, I developed the patience and sincerity required to listen to patients and understand their suffering.

If you are suffering any health problems, I will listen and do my best to help you.
